Well’s harrowing account of the horrors of the East St Louis Massacre, “the most deliberate wanton, and barbarous massacre that has blotted the pages of human history.” Takes the form of Well’s interviews with witnesses, published white newspaper stories, and formal requests for congressional intervention from her League of concerned citizens in Chicago. Recommended for anyone living in the area who hasn’t heard much about this huge event in July 1917.
