I had a hard time getting into this one in print, but enjoyed it much more on audio (read by the author).

The concept of the 'second curve' figures as a kind of template on which Brooks structures the foundation of his argument, which broadly runs as follows:
In life's second half we should strive to -
1. Serve others
2. Accept, even embrace, our weaknesses and deficiencies
3. Begin to give serious thought to the inevitability of death
4. Work towards these things with in incremental, yet concrete steps (for example, get more and better quality sleep).
5. Realize you are not alone (which kind of goes back to number one)
6. Contemplate the divine (I had some challenges with this one, to the extent that I am not a practicing Catholic, but that aside, I can identify with his call to embrace spirituality)

Some good insights in the first half, but the second half was a flop in my opinion. Too heavy on the religion piece and too many seemingly random quotes and meandering stories of historical figures that don't really drive home specific points for me.
