I love the setting. I love the Hong Kong-ness that leaps off the pages. I love the exploration of HKers’ relationship to material goods and their consumption habits. I did not love the depiction of women in the stories (lack of depth, objectification) and I did not know how to appreciate the open-endedness of the stories.

it felt pretty nostalgic but i think the translation didn't work out so well. some stories ended rather abruptly and confusingly.
