Really enjoyed the first part of the book. Absolutely love the illustrations. Was not so keen on the second half the book. Great ending!

Beautiful story of a girl and her favorite dress, which get separated when they arrive in the USA but are eventually reunited.

Thanks to the Kid Lit Exchange Network for the review copy. All opinions are my own.
A new picture book that you won't want to miss! Many families have reached out to me this year for recommendations of books featuring immigration stories. In the current anti-immigrant climate, families are looking for stories that help immigrants and refugee children see themselves in books.
They are also looking for stories that help non-immigrant children develop empathy for others in their communities. THE DRESS AND THE GIRL is a new addition to this growing list!
THE DRESS AND THE GIRL has a folk tale quality to it. The author has done a wonderful job of using sparse, lyrical language that let’s the gorgeous illustrations tell much of the story.
I was compelled to keep reading, hoping that the girl and the dress would someday be reunited. Although I won’t ruin it for future readers, the full-circle ending was delightful.
.
THE DRESS AND THE GIRL demonstrates how even the smallest impacts of immigration—being separated from a favorite belonging—are life-changing. It’s a visually stunning, compassionate story that I look forward to sharing with young readers and their families.

A beautiful story of childhood, immigration and memory told from the perspective of both the young girl and her dress. It's a gem!
