Reading something by Melinda Salisbury has been on my list for a long time, but I never got to it. Until Fairyloot put this new book in their box. I decided to pick it up without expectations, without reading reviews, without preparing. It was one of the few times I didn't really know what to expect when I started reading.

I really like Melinda's writing style. She writes lyrical sentences with beautiful words and she's very descriptive. One could say that at some moments the descriptions were way more detailed than needed, but somehow it created this fairytale like feeling and it built up this entire world. It also really helped me to get a great grasp of the characters and their emotions, the struggles they were facing and the process they were going through.

I was very surprised to discover that this book was in everything a character driven and emotionally driven read. There was not much action and most of the book was political and consisted of dialogues and scheming. And I really enjoyed that. I enjoyed how it made all those characters intelligent in their own way and how the story was really about the characters and made them so vivid and so real that I felt like I really knew them.

I assume there will be a second book in this series, I hope so at least, and I hope that in that book we will get to know some characters a little better. I actually had a very weak spot for a character that we've only seen so briefly and I really hope we'll see more of him in the future! I'm excited to read the sequel at least and I can't wait for more political intrige!

underwhelming, kind of boring, it could not keep me interested so I read about the first 150 pages but then skimmed the rest.. the cover is beautiful though!!

A great book to complete my Goodreads challenge this year. Yes, I set an extremely low goal this year just so I don’t pressure myself to complete a larger goal than last year with my studies. However, finishing my goal with a great book is worth it!

This book had everything I love about a fantasy: magic, kingdoms, plots and political games, forbidden love. I haven’t read one with elections before so this was a completely new subject for me. I am so happy my sister got me the Fairyloot box for my birthday because it had the author’s signature as well!

All in all, this was a book that I loved (even though some things were somewhat predictable) and I can’t wait for the sequel!

This is a story about an election and corruption...so wasn't really in the mood for it.

Read number 2: I still loved this SO MUCH!!
-------------------

This was such a great surprise!!

I received this book in the March Fairyloot box and hadn't picked it up before because I had never heard of it and just didn't have very high expectations.

Now I'm finished I simply want MORE and right now!!!

This book was extraordinary. The prologue alone pulled me in so much. The world-building is fantastic, Sorrow and the other characters are so well done and relatable and gave me all the feels, there were dozens of plot twists and surprises and I simply can't find any faults in this book! :)

I highly recommend this!!

I enjoyed this book, I liked that there was an already established romance at the beginning but that went sideways and I actually like Sorrow on her own.
