Grandma is a firecracker. She's always one step ahead of everyone. She's always saving the day.

This was a quick fun read that I really enjoyed. It takes place in the late 30's and a city girl has to go live with her feisty, self reliant grandmother in the country. I loved the antics of the grandma and how she dealt with a life that could have been seen as kind of rough.

I think that I liked this one even better than the first (A Long Way From chicago).

I really liked all three of the Mrs Dowdel stories and would be happy to read a fourth! The continuity from book to book and the character development are both great. Even though they are set in a very particular time and place there's something about them that makes them timeless.

Really funny, solid historical fiction set in the late 1930s in rural Illinois. I listened to the audio and laughed out loud quite a few times. Awesome for your middle-grade reader.
