I've been wanting to read this book for some time. Was very interested mainly because of the Titanic aspect of it. But when I started reading this, I almost forgot the tragic ending what is to come. I enjoyed reading about the Chinese twins acrobats. I liked learning about the untold stories of the Chinese people who didn't get the same recognization and privilege compared to their white counterparts. A lot of the story felt slow for my taste but once it got to the climax of "survival" I became more invested. Recommend for titanic fans & historical fiction lovers!

This was a beautiful, beautiful book. It made me think so deeply. I adored the writing style, one of the most unique I've ever read! And the commentary was so important... I adored this so much.

It was a bit too slow starting for my liking, could have improved the plot a bit by making the start more interesting, and giving the characters more depth.
I loved the concept, and the cast, I just think the delivery of the story, such as the pacing and characterisation could have been developed more fully.

I don't know, maybe the fact that I finished this but kept forgetting to review says it all.

I liked it, as I'm a sucker for anything Titanic related and this was a whole different story than anything I've read before.

But for some reason I found it quite slow at the start, couldn't really get into it for a while and found the leading lady a bit... annoying

This was such a quick and interesting read. I really enjoyed the various relationships that Valora formed throughout the book. I was surprised by how easy it was to forget about the inevitable ending while reading a story set on the Titanic.

I appreciate the diversity in this book and obviously enjoy historical fiction, especially concerning maritime history. I wanted to give this four stars, and nearly did, as the pacing really picked up once the ship began to sink but I didn’t enjoy the first ¾ of the book. Val wasn’t very likable and at times I just couldn’t believe the dumb decisions she’d make. Some of the back and forth between her and Jamie was cringy and too cheesy for me. I do have to say, the ending surprised me, which I always appreciate.

3.5 stars for me.
