This book does NOT make me want to delve any further into the Percy Jackson series- while craft wise it was perfectly acceptable for my taste, the way Tyson was used as a stand in for intellectual disability and the INTENSE level of ableism that seeped into the way he’s treated and talked about was really uncomfortable to say the least. While the ableism is clearly not portrayed as “good” our main characters still display some incredibly poor behavior, which is not entirely addressed. One particularly jarring example was the use of the R-slur aimed at Tyson- while Percy defends him, he does NOT seem to think it’s wrong to use that word as a whole- simply that it shouldn’t be used to describe Tyson. This unchallenged ableism is woven throughout to an extent that it completely overpowers any enjoyable aspects of this book

The last 100 pages was so engaging! I loved how it focused more on other character relationships.

HOWEVER,

this series just had a reprint and you are telling me no one could edit out the micro-aggressions and ableist language and lines

ALSO WHY ARE THE CONFEDERATES IN THIS. BOOK WHAT WAS RICK ON

There is no reason to still have the r word in a book, especially with so many people reading the series, since the show has premiered

I love where this series is going but I’m very disappointed with how it portrays disability so far and acknowledge the problematic aspects, which is why I am reading through the library

The second adventure of the Demigod campers. The Sea of Monsters is a dangerous place, but these are dangerous times. With the camp under attack the group had no choice but to make an odyssey to find The Golden Fleece.

I love this series and it only gets better as it goes along. Percy now knows the basics and it’s time to travel further. I love his relationship with Tyson and how it develops, I love the interactions between him and Annabeth. This books is an underrated adventure and the second step of Krono’s war against Olympus.

While it is true that this is my least favourite of the series, I still love it very very much. And my recent reread just completely proves that point. I didn't expect it to enjoy as much as I did so here's a list of the things that I liked:

- Percabeth bonding moments
- Different side to Clarisse
- Hamster!Percy
- WeddingDress!Grover
- Percy and Clarisse bonding moments
- Tyson 🥺
- Establishing the extent of Luke's evilness
- Thalia Grace is in the scene yo
- Percy discovering that he's a human GPS now
- Nobody!
- Percy vs. Luke face-off
- Tantalus getting what he deserved (no burgers)
