Another Singing Hills Cycle book! I love this series with it being my favorite thing that Nghi Vo writes. I enjoyed this book. It is not one of the strongest ones but there is something done in this book that was a twisty in a way that I did not see coming and is rather unique.

If you like the series this is a solid entry but if you don't really care, I don't know if this is going to be the one to change your mind.

My rating system
1 - Did not enjoy
2 - Not irredeemable but has too many flaws to say I enjoyed
3 - Enjoyed it
4 - Great book but didn't love it
5 - Amazing book

I've really enjoyed all of the books in the singing hills cycle, and this is no exception. This is a little more plot-heavy than some, which made it feel like it was moving faster! I enjoy the character study of Cleric Chih in every one of the novellas, and I might have liked them best in this one! The bride seemed like a silly little girl so I was glad she had Chih! I did miss Almost Brilliant in this one :)

And now I’m caught up on the Singing Hills novellas, at least for a little while.

Anyways, in this one, Chih gets caught up in a wedding that starts off looking really bad, and then gets progressively worse.

Not my favorite of these, but still really excellent. There’s a creepy, almost dreamy atmosphere that pervades this one, and it’s all to a very good purpose. It’s probably the closest thing to a horror story that Vo’s done with this series of novellas, and I have to say that I’m not unhappy with the result! It does remind me that I have to get to her two horror novels, too.
