I've read many an Austen retelling, and this one is probably the best I've encountered. The author clearly spent time studying Austen's phrasings and specific stylistic tells, because the story reads like it is a draft found discarded in Jane Austen's notes rather than a retelling written 200 years later. This story retells Northanger Abbey from the point of view of Henry Tilney (the love interest in the original story). While the scenes that were Austen's remain, we also get many new scenes showing things that Catherine (the point of view character in the original novel) was not privy to. We also get to see scenes that we are familiar with told through Henry's more ironically sarcastic voice. (Also, it is so refreshing for someone to get that Henry isn't a jerk; he has a different sense of humor).
This book was available for free on the author's website. It is of a such a high quality that I would have happily paid for it. I'm going to try to find more of her work because she's clearly very talented and very observant.
