The story seemed like it was going to be promising but for some reason felt childish. I wouldn’t say the “twist” were predictable but they just seems far fetched and silly.

I really love how the story was wrapped up and especially the ending, but I am a bit confused on the relationship between Anne and Marco, does Anne not care that he was involved anymore? Like?? But either way, everything else with Anne’s history, Cynthia’s part, Richards shenanigans wrapped together nicely. Also Anne’s mom is a boss lady for sending a private investigator after her husband and also being was more successful than him yet humble.

As much as I was hoping this was gonna wow me, it just didn't. It had repetitive times where I just wished the story would move on. The twists weren't all that surprising as the story definitely led you to predict them. And it was all a BIT too coincidentally for it to be taken more seriously. No way some of this stuff would have flown in the real world. Also, I was rolling my eyes quite a bit at a few of the characters and their actions. Didn't love this one. Meh.

Who could put it down? I'm so thankful I had an evening to devote to devouring every page of The Couple Next Door I simply had to know who took baby Cora and why. It's my favourite niche of a genre (suburban psychological thrillers) and an amazing debut by Shari Lapena, who I have since read other books by and have the rest on hold at my local library. Every time I thought I had figured out what was going to happen, I was proved wrong. SPOILER FREE -- there are a number of twists and turns throughout... you may want to keep track or take notes if you're not a steel-trap-mind of a reader, Lapena doesn't throw details in to bulk up the word count.
