I fully planned on rating this book 4 stars until I got to around 85% done. Wow.

Being the first book I have read by Tarryn Fisher I was a bit skeptical about how it would turn out. I was surprised to find that not only was it so well written that I could not put it down but it is one of few books that I immediately wanted to read again. I found Senna and Isaac's story completely addicting. The way they met and how their relationship develops is complex and slow. after losing each other they are forced back together by an unknown kidnapper. They are forced into painful memories and torturous situations. With a twist that you will not see coming this book is full of suspense and a twist you will not see coming. Tarryn makes you feel every emotion with her characters. Reading Mud vein you hope for the usual happy ending that usually comes at the end of a story. There is no happy ending for Senna and Isaac. Happy ending or not you will fall in love with their story and you will not be disappointed. it is well worth the read and you will fall in love with Tarryn Fisher in the process. I highly recommend reading Mud Vein and anything else Tarryn Fisher writes.

I seriously don't know how to feel about this book. On one hand, I couldn't put it down, and I couldn't figure it out. I would think I know the answer, and bam- nope sorry, you have no idea. On the other, Mud Vein has an emotionally fucked up everything. I say everything because the characters (all of them), the villain, the plot, pretty much everything is twisted. Not only does Senna wake up not in her own home, locked away in some cabin in the woods, but she must put all of it aside to try to figure out how to escape. Everything is connected, but after 33 years of a fucked up life, some things are buried. It's the minds way of protecting you, allowing you to forget how life can be so cruel, but those memories hold the key to her freedom.

If I am being completely honest this book was more to the border of hate for me than it was on the side I liked it. I hated Senna, Isaac was quite okay, but still quite gray and catatonic for my taste. The plot overall was quite gripping, but frankly bizarre and not relatable. The language on the other hand was on some parts quite brilliant. I don't know really what made me read it all, probably my obsession of never leaving books started off. There was too much depression seeping out of the pages and even though it had somewhat happy ending I felt that Senna still deserved a bit more good stuff happening to her.

As much as I loved Love me with lies series, this book didn't click with me. My main issue - Senna, exceptionally non-likeable character. Queer plot too. I couldn't even manage to finish the book, which is very rare for me. I just didn't care for Senna, and found her tedious. Disappointed.

*reread review*

Senna wakes up locked in a secluded cabin with someone she used to know, in the snow, surrounded by an electrical fence. She has to face her past to find clues to decode why they were taken so that they can escape.

Mud Vein is either for you or it is not. I feel like there is no in between. Tarryn once said this, "I wrote that book for the women who had been that low, that hurt, and that dead inside."

Getting raw with you here, that was me, dead inside when it first came out a few short days before my birthday in 2014. I have since read this book once a year. It's my book, the one that shifted my perspective, the one that healed me ... put balm on my wounds, held me and soothed my soul until I could stand on my own again. (Isn't it breathtaking how much power books hold?!)

This book is layered in themes and hidden meanings, it reaches into the depth of your soul and tugs. It shows you how to love yourself, but also how to let others love you back. Self communication and awareness.

Simply put, it just is. I have every edition made of this book and will continue to cherish it until my last breath. Dramatic much? Yeah, but have we met? Babs here, full of drama and all the extra.

There were a lot of twists to this story that I wasn't expecting, which kept my interest.  With that said, I was not expecting that ending and I'm not sure how I feel about it.
