This book is probably one of the most well written children’s books to ever exist. It is easy to read and the story is incredibly fun. I have always loved Lemony Snicket, but reading this as an adult really enlightened me!

I read it because I loved the TV show and it’s almost as amazing. The TV show really honours its source material, but has the pros of the outfits, aesthetics ... Still the book was funny, cleverly written and never dull. I had an amazing time figuring out the differences with the show or recognising quotes from it. Even though it’s a children’s book, you can really dig deep and find themes that are very mature. (a bit like Harry Potter in that sense.)

Sadly I’d already seen the movie so I knew what was gonna happen, however the book was still enjoyable! I liked when the author did the “here, this word means X” thing. There’s a peculiar charm to the writing that balances quite a sad, melancholy story with a quirky-but-not-annoying tone. And the illustrations were gorgeous! I look forward to reading more in the series.

Loooved it

I had just seen the movie and the show. The book is so much darker than both of those adaptations. This Olaf is just despicable.
The writting is impeccable though, I enjoyed every page.
