A sweet, slice-of-life type story. Maybe not the best writing in history but a lovely read

This was such a wholesome read, I watched the film years ago but never read the book which Is really an autobiography of James and Bob's life. It was extremely brave of James to be so open about his difficult past and addiction. The connection he has to Bob is truly beautiful and it really goes to show that pets can change our lives as much as we can change theirs. The power of love and having to be responsible for them is so special and Bob is such a special cat. It's sad that he had to use Bob as his special weapon to help get people to notice him from busking and through selling the big issue and the adversity he faced from law enforcement and other street performers and big issue sellers. It was a really inspiring story which just makes you want to give your pets an extra hug tonight and thank them for being in our lives.

This was a light, easy, feel-good memoir that had enough moments of tension that I was forced to hug my own ginger tom quite tightly. James, a recovering heroin addict, finds a hungry, ill, and flea-bitten stray in his apartment building. After a couple of days and after asking around, James determines that the skinny boy needs a name and a home. Feel-good memoir progresses, Bob the cat goes to a vet, and is fed, cleaned up, and employed as a busker assistant. Much cat tenderness ensues. This is a delightful, warm, and fuzzy tale.

Trivia: there was a movie made based on the book. The author is played by an actor but Bob plays himself.
