It isn't quite as good as the first one, but it's still pretty darn cute.

Another great children's book... wonderful opportunity to make fun sounds and very nice pictures to go along with a nice story about taking turns.

I first read this book in the two year old nursery at church. It was requested 3x more than "Little Blue Truck". It has a different message and in it, Little Blue Truck is in the city. Other cars are in a hurry and all think they are the most important. No one can take turns and share the road. As a result, when the limo driving the mayor has an engine problem, all of traffic gets stuck. Little Blue reminds them to be kind and take turns. He offers the mayor a ride and the mayor, ashamed of his selfishness apologizes to all and commends Blue.

I found myself liking this one best among the Little Blue Truck books. I bought a copy for my nephew R for Christmas.

While I love the original Little Blue Truck, Little Blue Truck Leads the Way isn't as good. I still like the book, and Emmett enjoys it when we read it, but I feel like it is lacking in certain areas.

The first page is the exact same as Little Blue Truck: "Horn went 'Beep!' Engine purred. Friendliest sounds you ever heard." Then, it shows Blue coming into the city and being awestruck by how big and fast everything is. The author decided to then have all the other vehicles be extremely rude to Blue, saying things like "Shove on, Shorty!" and "Move it, Bud- I'm first, you're last!" Honestly, we shouldn't really show our children this type of behavior, especially since the message in this book is more subtle than the first.

Anyways, the book continues with Blue saying that they should go one at a time, so the streets aren't congested. The mayor's limo miraculously stops working, so Blue asks if he would like a ride. This is probably my favorite page:

Why? It's really fun to make a voice for the mayor. I always try to give him a city accent. So, all the vehicles get in a line behind Blue. Some of them even offer for others to go before them, which I think is the main point of the story. All of a sudden, there is a marching band that joins the vehicles, and everyone starts waving and clapping as Blue passes.

My opinion: Not very realistic and hard to decipher what the true message behind the book is. I'm not sure if the author was going for a 'let's get in a line, and everything should be fine' approach, a 'don't be mean to others because things might end badly for you' approach, or a 'slow down and take your time because there is no need to rush' approach. The illustrations are fine; although it doesn't remind me of any cities I've been to.

So, would I suggest this book? Yes. Why? Because it's a good addition to the series. If your child likes Little Blue Truck, Little Blue Truck Leads the Way will definitely be a great addition for them to read. The good thing about this book is that it is easy to memorize, and Emmett loves the police car.
