I understand why this book was banned from some school libraries.  It has very serious topics that should be discussed between teens and their parents.

Another great work by Ellen Hopkins. This story follows pattyn a young woman in a Mormon family dealing with a violent alcoholic father. Once she gets in trouble pattyn is sent to spend the summer with her aunt where she finds freedom and true love. The story ends with an unforgettable twist that left me in tears

My full review can be found on the Epilie Aspie Chick blog!

The first book is told exclusively from Pattyn's perspective, although she gives you a clear indicator of how her entire family functions. In the second book, that consequences of the first book play out with a dual narrative between Pattyn and her younger sister, Jackie. These two have their own traumas to face in their own way, but are similar in impact.
