I have a love/hate relationship with literary fiction. When it's good, it's transporting and amazing and when it's bad it's a pretentious slog. Because I am kind of wary of the genre, I haven't read anything by Hoffman before, though I've certainly noticed plenty of her books.
After reading this story, I definitely want to read more by her. I haven't been much into historical fiction for a while either, so I was skeptical about how I'd react to this one, but it was so atmospheric that it drew me right in. I reveled in every short page of this. It's a lovely, lovely story.

This was entertaining, I didnt hate it but i didn’t exactly love it. I was intrigued and there but I was left with lots of questions. I think for how short it is it makes sense for it to be so fast paced but i feel like there was more to develop here.

Alice Hoffman has done it again!! What an impressive short story that will have you feeling all the emotions!! Everything My Mother Taught Me is about a mothers relationship with her daughter, husband and neighbors. It is filled with love, loss, loyalty, neglect, secrets, betrayals and revenge. My only complaint was I wished it was longer!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
