I really enjoyed this novella and will look for the first full book in the series.

Gotta get one thing out of the way: insta-love. A severe case of it.

There. Now that that's said, I'll do my best to ignore it and judge the book ignoring that pet peeve.

This was a good quick read, and that's awesome considering the virtual stack of sci fi romances I've tried to read lately but haven't been able to finish.

This is a straight up romance with a space setting. If you're looking for something that's deep on plot, this might not be the book for you. On the other hand, I usually read for plot and I still enjoyed this, enough that I'm interested in the author's new book that just released. New book is broken into parts, tho, so I'll likely wait until they're all out before buying.

Anyway, a good story with great, accessible writing. The heroine didn't get on my nerves -another problem I tend to have with SFR - and the glimpses of world building peaked my interest.

For a summary of the plot: pilot girl meets scientist guy. They fall in insta-love. An interesting problem arises, keeping them apart. They overcome problem and live HEA.

It's an enjoyable read that leaves me hopeful I might like the author's full length book.

What I liked.
The world building was strong and in-depth, no mean feat for a short story. I really didn't see a way out of the situation that could possibly result in the happily ever after required for a romance, which added to the heartbreaking overtone that ran for most of the story and really added to the HEA at the end. The hero was adorable, the villain suitably evil, the secondary character interesting and the heroine a complex, well drawn woman. Beautifully lyrical writing and scene descriptions.

What I didn't like.
If I really dig deep to find something to complain about, perhaps I got a tiny bit tired of the heroine feeling sorry for herself. But as she'd just had her heart completely broken, then the possibility of happiness snatched away in one of the most heart-wrenching, inhumane of ways, a little self pity is more than understandable!

In conclusion.
Prepare to have your heart ripped to pieces, along with some great character building and enough tech for the space enthusiast without being overwhelmed by science. A short, more than satisfying scifi romance that will leave a smile on your face. Fans of ST: Deep Space Nine would definitely like this.
