This book had a tough act to follow, with Dragonfly in Amber potentially being one of my favorite books I've ever read. That book was so engrossing that I finished it extremely quickly. Voyager, on the other hand, lacked in some parts. The first 400 pages or so were incredibly engrossing and enjoyable, and I was looking forward to Jamie and Claire taking to the seas and the Caribbean, as Caribbean history is another one of the areas that I am particularly interested in. That part of the book dragged on and on and on and on... unfortunately. I struggled to make it through portions of the book at that time, which was really disappointing to me.
However, the relationship between Jamie and Claire continues to be, in my mind, one of the best written romances I have ever encountered. Both of their characters are so well developed and relatable that it is so hard to not be completely drawn into their story. I also loved Fergus in this book and enjoyed Laoghaire's reappearance... even if it did cause some strife. It was interesting and exciting to read, so I was pretty pleased with it.
The opening chapters of this book were everything I could have wanted after finishing Dragonfly in Amber. After Ian's kidnapping, however, things got dull and less engaging.
I guess it's hard to live up to expectations after the amazing book that proceeded this one.

The whole series is awesome, however the whole crazy magical West Indies storyline wasn’t of my liking.
