My kids love these board books. The more battered they are, the more they seem to like them.

This book has some educational information about penguins, so it can be a good teaching tool for young kids. It gives them a small amount of information that can definitely be expanded on.

My son and I thought this was a cute little book to read before. He enjoyed seeing the monkeys and trying to figure out how many there were.

Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed is another book I recognize from my childhood. It's bedtime and the five little monkeys are jumping on the bed, but one by one they fall off and bump their head. The rhythmic flow makes it easy to read and easy for children to grasp the story. The illustrations are colorful and engaging to young children. Five Little Monkeys is a counting picture book and is a good read aloud for young children working with counting.

I've sung the song to my daughter but it didn't really hold her attention (maybe it's because my singing voice leaves much to be desired) but she was fascinated by this book and the illustrations are very well done.

For: monkey fans; readers looking for a silly book with musicality.

Possible red flags: characters in peril; bodily injury; general misbehaving and not listing to parents/caregivers.
