Fun, lots of tension! I liked this better than Kingdom of the Wicked, I think the author’s writing is improving

I enjoyed this. It took me a few days to get through because it's been a busy stretch, but it was always something to look forward to. The elements themselves are fairly standard romantasy but well executed and the story and characters developed well across the book

It was enjoyable enought. Though there were times were I got super frustrated on what was happening, especially how the two MLs can never cooperate enought to focus on the game at hand. It made me want to throttle them both from time to time. But other than that, I enjoyed it. Enought to make me curious about the author's other works

After discovering Kerri Maniscalco, I've read all of her books, so I knew I'd read this one as well. I enjoyed being back in the world of the seven princes of hell! The book has plot that evolves around a game spiked with riddles. However, in total, this book was more like a romance book with the backdrop of fantasy and said game, which was sometimes used to either get the romance plot moving or create tension between characters. Because I enjoyed the game plot so much, I would've liked to see a lot more of that, but I knew that this was a romance heavy book, so the focus on romance wasn't surprising. While the book is long, it was a pretty quick read.
Also, a shoutout to the first edition hardcover with the beautiful foiling, I was very glad that I got my hands on it!
The book is clearly adult, which can be seen both in writing and in the way the romance progresses. It was well-written, though again, I did wish the game was a larger plot point. My favorite books are still her YA works (Stalking Jack the Ripper), but this was still a good read. Especially if you want an adult romance novel with a little fantasy, this might be a good match!
I know I'll pick up the following book about the next prince of hell once it comes out.

The book is... fine, I guess. The plot of riddles in a high-stakes game is intriquing, especially when it involves reluctant allies each withholding their own secrets but still slowly warming up to each other. However, the plot gets put on the back burner very often in favor for emphasizing the main characters constantly lusting over each other.

This makes the smut feel so mundane it becomes a boring diversion from the actual plot and meaningful interactions between the main characters. If the smut was rarer in the book, it would feel more meaningful and make the story more balanced.

For added shock-value, there is meaningless violence, torture, and other possibly triggering events to cause diversion for the MCs from the main game in the plot. This dampened my enjoyment of the book.

If you are looking for a book with a nice premise for plot, interesting characters, but main focus on smut, you'll find a great match here.

Well if you weren't expecting the princes of sin to be very very spicy (mature) you would be so very wrong. I have read all of Kerri's previous books as an adult, and I love the way she writes and I knew, knew this spinoff series was ADULT, but my tame YA reading heart was still in shock a little bit. Yes, I read some romance, but not a lot, so it was still a bit of "looking around can anyone else hear my audiobook?" moments LOL. I really enjoyed the story and the twist! Wasn't expecting that at all. Very enjoyable, you don't have to read The Kingdom of the Wicked trilogy first to enjoy the more mature spinoff, but it is nice & helpful setting the world up. Again, I will be reading more of the Princes of Sin, and I will be more prepared for the heavy mature subject matter.
