This was a good book. It was extremely well written and covers an intriguing topic. It was just such a slow read for me! I think I was going through a reading slump but it was such a struggle to get through. Took me forever to finish.

I enjoyed every single second I spent with Count Rostov in the Metropol. I loved the relationships he built and the friends he made. This was such an enjoyable book to read. Highly recommend.

A beautifully written story about a man under house arrest in a luxury hotel in Moscow from the 1920s through the 1950s. I enjoyed the characters and the themes of purpose, memory, home, friendship, and not allowing external circumstances to control your internal life and feelings. (4.5)

A great book! I listened to it but I want to read-read it. I think I missed details. After finishing this I looked up the reviews and author and learned about Chekhov's Gun. I swear the author must have written this backwards to have so much detail.

Rostov is under house arrest in a grand hotel, which, on the surface doesn't seem that bad. But after 20 years of never being able to step foot outside, you can see it takes a toll. I saw what he was doing at the end and love how he planned everything. What detail did he miss? None that I can see. Brilliant man.

This is a book to re-read, because once you know the ending, you want to see how and when he started his plans.
