This was a struggle bus for me. I absolutely adored the world building. I could really visualize what the author was creating, and it was incredible. However, I got lost in the plot and felt like it was a bit of a slog to finish. So I loved it, but I also just kinda liked it.

I genuinely thought this was a standalone the entire time I was reading it, which probably made my reading experience much less enjoyable. Looking back I can see that it's really just setting up the next two books and I have hope that they will be well executed. The end of this book was also left very open ended, but not enough so that I thought it was anything more than an odd way to conclude the book. Looking forward to reading the next book, and I hope it reads better with the adjusted expectations if this being a trilogy and not a standalone

Fantasy but could be set in the distant future. Over thousands of years there's a cyclical battle between two forces to control a city that holds all knowledge, in books in a nearly infinite library. Great world building, plenty to think about regarding the value of knowledge vs. wisdom, well done characters.

I don't care what age she ended as; you don't get to introduce us to the main character as a literal child, keep her as a literal child through most of the book, and also make her the yearning love interest of a grown adult.
