I really enjoyed this book. It’s like the bachelor but fairytale version. My only complaint is the back and forth between America and Maxin, in regards to wether or not he loved her, started getting redundant and I was ready for the story to move on from that issue. I did appreciate however that the author made me feel torn between Maxin and Aspen myself. Overall I’m excited to read the rest of the series!

Love love love this series and this book! The perfect middle-of-trilogy book to expand the plot and character development. My only dislike is the intense miscommunication trope between America and Maxon.

2 confusing stars

I was not a huge fan of the first book, but I like to finish what I start, so I committed to reading this trilogy.

This second book...is kind of unecessary and also confusing. America cannot keep a thought straight to save her life. She thinks about Maxon, then stresses about being a princess, then Aspen is there, then she feels insecure about the other girls. Nothing makes sense and it's so confusing because the book is from her perspective! . I mean, we are literally reading her inner thoughts and I'm left wondering what's going- can't blame Maxon and Aspen for not knowing either.

Not that those two are the epitome of communication. Aspen is clear about his feelings but also tells America she couldn't handle being a princess (which, rude) and Maxon is in the process of being the Bachelor and starts catching maybe some feelings for other girls. Ugh, it's so... ugh .

Look, it might be because I'm not in high school. But this book really wasn't it.

I did like this book far more than I liked The Selection. America was very stupid- but I also understood her struggle, not between guys but between what kind of life she wanted to lead and what type of person she wanted to be once The Selection was over. I like Maxon, hate Aspen, but truly, I'm team America on this one. Whatever she wants- I think it'll be an okay decision. A lot of changes and development happened in this book, considering our protagonist was incredibly wishy-washy. I'm interesting in the final book, but still don't expect too much from it.
