Just as with humanity as a whole, we are each doomed to repeat.

This 1st person, slow-reveal story reads like a long metaphor. Or a story with a moral. Sometimes even like a parable, with it's religious themes.

Dystopian books are usually vivid with world-building and descriptive in creating their after-earths. This one, though has so few environmental details that you only get a fuzzy glimpse of thir dystopian Earth.

The supporting characters are frustratingly low on details. All conversations with the main character drift between ignoring his question and changing the subject. It gets tired... but I understand why the author chose to do it, now that I'm done.

A good read.

Oh man what did I think of this book? Many different layers in it. Some religious overtones. A very good commentary on modern society. What science could be headed to in terms of technology.

Even though nothing happens for awhile, the main character really kept me interested. His view on everything was very fresh. He wasn't one of the many "I've got to know everything right now or else". He was just trying to figure out WHO he was. Nothing else.

But the ending.
SpoilerIt blew me away when I found out that Horkai had been frozen many times and has been through about the same thing as you read. Just all that history really makes you sit and think.

So overall if you want a pretty good science fiction book, try to give this book a read. It may not seem worth it while reading it but the ending really wraps it up perfectly.

I really enjoyed this book and the narrator was great. I did figure out what was going on pretty quickly, so the twist wasn’t surprising, but that didn’t ruin the experience for me. I did feel like certain elements were rushed at the end while others were left dangling. I felt a lot of empathy for characters that weren’t even human, which was cool.
