This was very fun. Reminds me of the Finlay Donovan series. I’ll be reading the next books in this series.
this was fun enough, but the mystery was way too shallow for me to commit to reading a second installment of this. plus the writing leaned a lot on a goofier kind of humor that doesn't really do much for me. but i enjoyed the character construction, even if the heroine is honestly pretty whatever, she's just kind of there, and the love interest's main personality trait is basically being in love with her (which i'm weirdly okay with) - the aunties really shine here, and i enjoyed their presence more than anything else. it was something fast and easy to listen to, and the audio narrator is really good at all the voices she does!
I listened to most of this while on a walk and I looked like a psychopath as I was laughing out loud but it’s okay because this was worth it, I love this book! Would highly recommend if you just need something light and fun that will make you laugh out loud. The characters were so were the star of the show they were and I really like the romance too.

I don't typically gravitate to funny books, but Dial A for Aunties was a delight. It's fun and silly with a lot of heart. It does go slapstick at times, but as the book's overall vibe is light-hearted silliness, this works. Sutanto pokes gentle fun at her own community (Chinese-Indonesian migrants) in a way that helps make that particular migrant experience feel more understandable for readers from other backgrounds.
I particularly appreciated that each of the titular aunties had a unique personality. It would have been very easy to lump them into a singular category (and thus potentially a stereotype), but the relationships among the aunts and their navigation of their personality differences is just as important as the way the Chan women face the world together. The book is also very strong on solidarity among women, which I loved.
I enjoyed this a lot and have already recommended it to a number of people. I'm delighted that it's first in a series, as I want more of the Chan women and their silly escapades!
