I read this for my English class so I honestly wasn’t expecting much, but I really enjoyed it. It is an interesting style of writing but I loved it. The way that Tim O’Brien shares his experiences through storytelling paints such a vivid picture and really allows you to feel.

(Reread.) I read this mainly because I knew I wanted a good book, and I wanted to know if it’s held up since I was 17. It has. O’Brien has an imaginative and unique literary voice that sticks with you and influences the way you see the world. His magical realism—both hidden and self aware, to the point where you’ll never know where he’s going—makes this one of the most completing reads of all time.

I know cruelty was a part of the Vietnam war, but one particular chapter featured extremely unwarranted violence against an innocent, and it was very hard to read. It got its point across though, absolutely.

I read this in high school, but I barely remembered anything besides how I felt afterward. Vietnam veterans weren't treated well when they got home, and this book gives an idea of all they went through over there. I mean, they were barely grown up and drafted into a war that killed a ton of people. Some of the stuff from the book I didn't support.
The poor baby buffalo didn't deserve to be tortured just because the guy's friend died. I felt for him, but it doesn't excuse torturing a helpless animal.
