not taking into account its idiosyncrasies and inconsistencies, Perfect Blue makes for a solid thriller. I have to admit, the film did a much better job capturing the theme of obsession, but along with its exploration, it lost some of the essence of the original novel. The last act left me a little annoyed at the inconceivability of an otherwise very realistic fictional tale; that being said, the visceral, twisted gore is disgustingly good. being a translated work, I'm ignoring all grammatical and language errors but one thing I found uncomfortable was how raw and unnecessary some chapters were (and I don't mean the ones with gore)

I really liked it! There were a lot of differences from the movie but I think both are good and worth the read/watch!

Small warning that is gets quite gruesome in the last few chapters, especially the last chapter.

This book was great. The movie differs from the source material, but I do think that both are great. The antagonist is seriously unhinged and sinister.  This book is not for the faint of heart- look at the content warnings and just know that I'm serious about all of them.

I prefer the film in retrospect as the book is fairly unremarkable, but still enjoyed it. Also the themes of celebrity - especially female celebrity - are even more relevant now. 3/5 stars!

Perhaps the first time I’ve preferred the movie adaptation. The book seems a lot more focused on horror and less so on a compelling narrative or commentary on idol culture. Not sure if it’s the translation, but the writing is also a little clunky; there were a lot of similes that were odd and took me out of the story.

It's quite dark. The plot is intricate and the visual presentation is a feast for the eyes. Its portrayal of toxic idol culture and how media affects a person's psychology to be a realistic presentation of contemporary society…
