only stars it’s getting is for katara being able to waterbed with only her legs. so many plot holes from the series that were embarrassing to have not been caught in editing. also this left such a bad taste in my mouth the way it preached this “love fixes colonialism” narrative and painted the antagonist as crazy, unreasonable and “savage” when he was making especially timely and valid points. also this just did not wrap up? at all? no conclusion or discussion, just half-assed themes that imo did more damage than good because they were not actually given the care, conversation and respect the themes deserved.

This might have been my least favorite of the 5/6 graphic novel trilogies I have read so far. I think if they had spent more time on Malina & Maliq’s character development I would’ve enjoyed it a bit more - but still a must read if you are interested in learning more about the history of the water tribe and if you want to revisit the struggle between old vs. new that was touched on in the original tv show.

Ok, so this was the weakest but it was still really enjoyable.
