The first half of the book was very captivating and intriguing. But
after Ted's death,
the story just went downhill with an abrupt ending. I also didn't like that women were overly sexualized. The detective writes highly inappropriate limericks (that doesn't move plot forward or anything), and I hated that character.

You never know how this one will end. Who did it? Suspenseful.

I binge listened over 2 days. I found the ending pretty meh, but the journey there was fun and intriguing.

I really enjoyed how this book was written. It kept me guessing and the story ended up in a way I never expected!

(Review copied from Goodreads)
Three stars for being engaging, and for having >= 1 interesting character. Lost some points for having some very dull characters (boy, those sections dragged). The ending felt rushed and maybe even a little cheap, somehow, but I will say right now that I think my opinion about the ending is wrong and I'm just being petulant.

I will give another of Swanson's books a shot to see if I like it better. This one felt like he had a manuscript due and had to get it done. It also felt like he wanted to do an homage to Patricia Highsmith (that's clear from the very beginning: it's a Chekhov's Gun but Highsmith!) and maybe had to rush it. That may have affected my rating--you can't out-Highsmith Highsmith, and we all pale in comparison.

Unexpected twists at all points. The switched POVs kept it interested
