Enjoyed this way more than the TATBILB books! I really enjoyed getting the backstories a little more fleshed out than we get in the show. Definitely had a very 2007 feel to it but I can now say the show did a super good job adapting it. Team Conrad forever and always!

Das Buch wurde für mich hinten raus immer & immer besser. Es war oft bisschen sehr dramatisch, aber it is what it is in der Jugend I guess haha. Ich hab den Sommervibe GELIEBT!! Diese Routinen & Erinnerungen & das Leben miteinander, einfach tollo.

This was a reread from a long long time ago. It’s really affirming that my taste and analysis of stories has matured since high school because this book didn’t thrill me in the way I remembered. It’s really a fine book, but it mostly makes me long for a beach house ☀️

I joined in on the hype but before I started the show, I wanted to read the book. It was just okay for me. I liked the characters and the idea of the “summer house”. It made me nostalgic for my own past but I really didn’t like the main character…maybe bc her name is Belly. It was a quick read though.

Summer is the time for being free, for being everything else we can't be for the rest of the year. And for Belly, summer is a time for love. This summer is also a time for change, growth and taking chances. First love never really dies and all the love that follows your first will always have to measure up to it. And sometimes when we fall in love, we don't realize how destructive it is, how we only give importance to that other person and don't value ourselves. Sometimes, we overlook the pain they cause us because of the mere fact that we love them. I hope Belly finally learns to love herself more and to give herself a better shot at love with somebody else, like Jeremiah or Cam. Like Belly, we should learn to see ourselves real worth before we can expect somebody else to value and treasure us. I hope Belly becomes like summer, free and reckless.
