Paranormal Romance
And let some steamy parts of romance start in this one. I didn't know I was missing it from book 1 until I got it here.
Must read book 1 [b:Burn for Me|20705702|Burn for Me (Hidden Legacy, #1)|Ilona Andrews|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1396368355l/20705702._SY75_.jpg|40025563]before reading this, even with some of the recap and explanations throughout the book it needs the background from book 1.
Reread is still just as good as that first read through. If you are familiar with Ilona Andrews work, you know you won't get much typical genre stories.
Love Ilona Andrews sense of humor. These books are great. Quick read through of this series, giving me a fix while I wait for new Kate Daniels to come out. Like any Andrews book, I did not want to put it down until it was done and wanted to go right into the next one. The lose of sleep is always well worth it.
A world where those with powerful magic are also the wealthy. Split into "houses". While it is all part of "normal" society with laws and rules, the magic users seem to be set apart in their own world at the same time. A bit of a mystery where everything going on connects to a bigger picture that we don't know what is fully going on or who exactly is involved at the top. I can't wait to find out, wondering what curve ball is coming.
A private investigator trying to live her normal life, keeps getting pulled into the magic side of things. The characters are typical Ilona Andrews types, but doesn't feel like the same old same old.

I love Nevada, I did in the last book but I like her even more in this book. We learn a lot of new and vital things about her heritage. Some things I saw coming others were a complete surprise. She also growing her powers and mastering it more but at the same time trying to keep them a secret from the public. We finally learn why it is so important for her to keep them hidden.
There are also some news about her family, some new powers are being discovered. Also the whole family bands once again together and sticks together. I absolutely lobe the family dynamic and can’t get enough of it. Especially grandma, she is just a hoot
The same goes for Connor (Mad Rogan, well we learn a lot more about him and motives, some of them. We also learn that he actually has a heart and does care. We get to learn a lot of his history and why he is the way he is. Either way. Mad Rogan rocks and so does Connor, while they are one and the same they are still a bit difference. I loved how he pushes Nevada’s buttons to get a rise out of her. We find out some of things he was up to concerning Nevada and her family and when it comes out it was actually kind of hilarious.
We meet Cornelius and his adorable family, I really liked them and I hope we get to see him and his kids in future books. Plus I think they could be really helpful in the upcoming battle.
Of course Augustine is back and I really shouldn’t like him, but I think liked him more than I should have. Which is kind of bad especially if what I think is about to come, turn out to be right. Either way I think he is funny and has a certain charm to him.
We also get some more background of the house and the politics of it., We also learn how new houses are made and what the rules are to that.
Overall this was an amazing book, full of action, humor and some steamy romance and also plenty if snark. I laughed out loud a lot reading this book.
I rate it 5★ and cannot wait to read the third book after we get this huge cliffhanger.
Some of my favorite quotes:
“Did you see how she got all hot under the collar?" Grandma Frida said in a theatrical whisper behind me. She's not over him.
"I can hear you!”
***
“I’m going to shoot him,” I squeezed through my teeth. “No, that would be murder,” Grandma Frida told me, her voice soothing. “You’ve had a long day. Let’s put your magic away. You know what you need? A nice cup of chamomile tea and a tranquilizer . . .” I”
***
“I so didn’t need another outbreak of Rogan fever.”
***
“You will. You’ll fall asleep fast and sleep soundly until morning, and then you’ll get up and have breakfast with your family because I’ll be prowling in your house tonight. And if anyone tries to interrupt your sleep and end your life, you have my word that they’ll sleep forever.”
