This book really surprised me! I was just looking for something to fill the gap before my next audiobook loan came in and checked this out because it happened to be available. It was great! I haven’t read the first two books in the series, so I missed out on some context, but I was easily drawn into the story and loved the characters. This was a thoroughly enjoyable mystery, and not at all what I expected. Now I’ll have to go back and read the first couple of books - unfortunately my library doesn’t have them on audio!

The police is incompetent, the main character has the backbone of a chocolate eclairs, and the aunt is a word that rhymes with witch. Like the main character apologizes to the aunt for being angry at the mom who abandoned her. Like excuse me? The aunt tells her that her grandfather might be ready to see her. Excuse me?! The main character says something about her biological mom not being “ready to see her.” EXCUSE ME?!!!!! I can’t with weak willed people like that. But the mystery was interesting, not enough to make up for the crooked police (who should be sued for wrongful incarceration), or the mc.

WOW! I've enjoyed this series from the start, but this third in the series has set it for immediate addition to the Nook as soon as I hear the next one is released. Probably an immediate read too once downloaded.
I love the setting and the premise, the main characters, side characters, everything. Megan is an organic farmer. She's smart. She loves her life, her farm, her family. She has a great guy in her life. I like how real she feels to me as the reader. I can identify with her which I don't always do when I read a book. And that's okay. Most of what I read is pretty out there. I want escape, I don't need to identify with everyone. It's just nifty when I find a character written in such a way as to feel like she'd be a good person to be around and be friends with.
It is set during Christmas, Megan is busy, but she helps with the investigation of a murder and the odd occurrences that are going on. I like that the police chief trusts Megan's insights, and he's no bumbling idiot. The police chief is smart and he knows how to use the tools around him that he can utilize.
Everything flows wonderfully. There are suspects out the yingyang. I had no idea whodunnit, but it made sense. I love when that happens.
I can definitely recommend this book, series and author.

Far-fetched even for a cozy, over-complicated, confusing, and ended with kind of a thud. And will this new character and her "Love Potions", a whole plot thread that went absolutely nowhere, disappear after this book?

I give the series some credit for tolerable writing and an almost realistic view of finances (almost) (kind of), but at least in e-book form this is in severe need of an editor. Not as bad as some I've seen, but more than enough.

And where's the recipe? For pete's sake, if your first two books are going to have a recipe, the third, filled with Christmas cooking, ought to follow suit.

Originally published on my blog: Nonstop Reader.

This is the third book in the Greenhouse Mystery series by Wendy Tyson. I was unfamiliar with the series before reading the third book (I know, I know), but it worked fine as a standalone. All the necessary background info is included in the narrative and I didn't feel lost or annoyed keeping track of the characters.

This is a holiday themed cozy, so the murders are convoluted and ridiculous and the law enforcement is predictably inept (but friendly). The denouement is satisfying and the elderly sidekick is fun. The love interest is Scottish and manly (and bonus points for being smart and loyal and romantic). All in all, a fun undemanding read.

I also enjoyed it that the protagonist, Megan Sawyer is intelligent and mature. She's an ex-lawyer, a widow, and organic farmer/local agriculture proponent. She has a complicated past which is covered at least partly in the earlier books in the series and alluded to in this third installment.

I also like the quaint, nostalgia themed 'seed packet' cover art (which is, sadly, uncredited in the galley proof I received for purposes of review).

Wendy Tyson is one of my go to authors and this title did not disappoint me. I had a great time reading this book and trying to solve the mystery. The characters and setting were everything that I love about a cozy!

I struggle to make up my mind what I think of this series. On the one hand, I really like the set up and Megan is developing into an interesting character. On the other, the mysteries don't always work as well as you want them too, and the way Denver's Scottish accent is rendered still annoys me. This book doesn't have as much of Megan doing farm things as you want either. Hey ho. It's still not bad by any stretch of the imagination, but it has so much potential to be really good.

Megan Sawyer comes in to her own in the third book in the Greenhouse Mystery series. She finds peace with herself and her deceased husband and makes a decision about her relationship with Denver, the sexy Scottish town vet. She also is granted a level of respect from the town sheriff for her investigative skills after the town in besieged by what appears to be a serial killer. I will admit that I knew who did it early on. I had no clue why that person was the killer but I just didn't like them. So for me it was matter of figuring out the why. That's just as much fun!
