Winner of the Hugo Award, this science fiction short story does a lot in a very short amount of time.

It was also written in the 1980s by that rare and wonderful unicorn that terrifies immature sci-fi nerd boys - a woman. So, you know...bonus.

Who am I? I am a forty-seven-year-old writer who can remember being a ten-year-old writer and who expects someday to be an eighty-year-old writer. I am also comfortably asocial—a hermit. ... A pessimist if I'm not careful, a feminist, a Black, a former Baptist, an oil-and-water combination of ambition, laziness, insecurity, certainty, and drive."
—Octavia E. Butler

Oh wow! This one was even better than The Evening and The Morning and The Night! Octavia E. Butler is masterful with her short stories! I loved this one and can’t wait to write my paper on it! It is mind blowing to me how Butler can give such a beautiful character arc and such an intricate plot within only 20 pages!

I’ve bought Parable of the Sower, one of her longer books, and I can’t wait to read it!
