Wow! I never thought it would be this good!

The strange case of Finley Jayne is her supernatural strengths. She may not be able to control her temper sometimes but she (so far) uses this in a good way especially when protecting the people she serves or her loved ones. And in this new job, she protects her new companion, Lady Phoebe from the mad scientist/mechanic Lord Vincent and him marrying her.

The setting is in London which is a perfect lovely setting for this historical yet robotic era of automatons, mechanical horses against bright pastel ball gowns and finely cut suits of Ladies and Lords, Counts and Countesses.

I could imagine Cinder along the lines of metal and brass while Tris of Divergent with Finley's curious mind and strength given that she's only sixteen to knock out armed men or even mechanical inventions. Finley, even not a prodigy nor a genius is likable for her smartness and the devil inside her actually does no harm.

But this is just the start. I reckon there's more action as the main event starts! Whew! :)

I loved The Girl in the Steel Corset and I loved to see how Finley got where we saw her there! Finley has had problems with controlling her 'other side' but instead of being feared, she is asked to be the companion of Phoebe, a debutante who is engaged to a man Phoebe's mother doesn't trust. Finley will have to find out what she is up against before it's too late.

It was a short story, but I really liked reading it. It showed us a little bit of Finley's background and even gave us a few glimpses of Griffin.. Who you will see more of in the first book, of course ;)

It's currently free for Kindle so you can't go wrong by getting it!

My overall rating: 4/5

Four stars for the lovely Finley! And I want more, more, more...

There really isn't much I can say for this novella besides the fact that it got me interested in reading the rest of the series. It was extremely slow in the beginning to the point where I wanted to put it down and quit but the further I got through it the more I wanted to read.

Despite the beginning I am actually looking forward to seeing where the story leads and I just hope where it picks up in the first novel it doesn't go back to being slow paced. I hope there's a lot more steampunk elements in the first novel because I absolutely love steampunk stories.

Once it picked up however I was drawn into the plot of the story. I didn't expect anything to happen and I was pleasantly surprised by everything that did. The characters were pretty interesting as well and I can't wait to see how they develop as the story goes on.

I haven't read any of the series this is a prequel short story to. It was a nice short story that shows a nice glimpse at the writing style, characters, world build. It was a perfect blend for a novella, it didn't feel bogged down or rushed.

Awesome little novella about Finley Jayne the most hardcore female protagonist I've met in a long time. She embraces her strength and actually uses it to do good, she does not complain or whine, she is protective, loyal, and independent. I loved it.

This is a great story! I am pleasantly surprised that I found it as a free e-book exclusive on the kobo website. After reading this story which is a mix of a period piece and a modern story, I cannot wait to read the rest of the steampunk chronicles!
