This was overall a nice read & I'm glad it caught my attention.

Both the beautiful cover and the plot summary of this book gained my interest when I came across it in my school library. It was indeed generally a good book. I enjoyed the various characters in the book and the new friendships that were formed as well as well as the romance ;). I also liked how the familial relationship between the main character and her mother was portrayed from the beginning of the book until the end. The romance between the main character and her love interest was heartwarming and I think both their sweet moments and moments of tension were portrayed realistically. I found the overall plot interesting and there was a lot of interesting dialogue too. I found myself rereading certain bits of dialogue just because I liked it so much. In addition to this, the plot twists kept me interested in this book and I always look a good unexpected plot twist. The plot twists that only made things in the fictional world more complicated and disastrous were interesting. I also liked how the author incorporated many parts of her culture into the book and had a glossary at the end.

What would keep me from giving this book a 5 star rating despite enjoying it is that there were some moments while reading the book in which I was a bit bored. I said that the plot twists were interesting and now I'm saying some of the book bored me so I'm contradicting myself right? It's not that I found the book entirely boring, if that was the case I wouldn't have even finished it, but there were some bits in between that I was kind of bored by. Also, towards the end of the book I was just eager to quickly complete it. I did like the book but it would be a lie to say that it had my interest 100% of the way through. Another thing that keeps this from being 5 stars for me is that some parts of the story were a little confusing/difficult to follow and I'd have to read over sections more than once.

Overall a good story, but not something I'd reread and not the best book in the world

The story was a little all over the place for me, but this was very much an enjoyable read and something you can stick your teeth into and finish in a couple sessions. Delving into Korean culture is always so interesting to me, and the folklore was super interesting. The characters were all a little too morally grey to the point they were confusing to me, I wish there had been more anchor characters instead of feeling like someone was switching sides every 5 seconds. The relationship was fun, if a little insta-lovely for a “stay tf away from me” to lovers for my taste. I feel like the pace was just a little too fast, and it could have done with simmering in a few moments to make everything hold more weight. I won’t be continuing in the series but I’m happy I read this.

A tad on the predictable side, but still quite enjoyable, sprinkled with Korean.
