Not for Tom Clancy fans

I keep getting pulled in by the marketing of books where I'm told a certain book will appeal to readers of another author. Flash came to me as a suggestion for readers of tom m Clancy. This is so far off the mark it almost made me angry. Some authors seem to find it hard to believe that women could find Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan series interesting without rape or women only being around to arouse or motivate the male characters. Rape was a pretty common tool in this novel. Add in the description of women as just to how desirable they are and the sadly predictable plot and you get time wasted reading this book. Don't do it folks.

It's not that I couldn't finish this book, I just couldn't think of a reason to do so. I swear I heard every cliche I've ever known, and that was just in the first 4 hours. I think my time is better spent reading something else.

A fast paced action amnesia-based thriller with lots of twists. I found it to be a captivating read although a bit too clique and unbelievable at times. 3.5 stars.

An okay book to pass the time.

Lots of suspension of disbelief with this one. You won't really believe two slightly above average people can face all the threats, obstacles and mental puzzles they are put through and come out of it alive, much less on top. And there are logical mistakes. This is basically a cheesy action film in novel form. But, if you like that sort of thing, it isn't too bad.
DEFINITELY written by a straight man. The female lead constantly bares her breasts or wets her shirt (sans bra) to get what she wants. There's also some gross scenes involving removal of body parts that are guaranteed to make men squirm. A little "gun porn" (twelve thousand dollar sniper rifle, anyone?). In fact, I think this whole book would give Freud something to study for quite some time.

OF COURSE, the male and female leads fall in love with each other. How can they not? There is no real chemistry between them, but they're both uber-smart, uber-athletic and very good looking, so why not?
Kidding aside, it is fast paced with an interesting premise, semi-exotic locale, violence, stunts, villains, and just enough implausible technology to make it interesting.

I have mixed feelings on this book. In brief it starts with a man and woman waking in a crime scene with no recollection of the past 8 years. They work together to figure out what’s happened after realising they are being set up for murder. I found the book slow at first but during the middle I couldn’t stop reading. The book was very inventive and the storyline worked and I can see this being a successful film. The thing that annoyed me most was the obvious love interest between the two main characters. Little irritating and the writing of passion between the two didn’t come across. In fact you don’t really get any of the characters. They are just people but you never really ‘feel’ them. Free book though so worth the read.

The mystery element was intriguing, but I didn't care for the gory violence (thankfully there wasn't a ton) or the sexual violence (gratuitous). The narrator was pretty bad at accents, although good at the rest of it.

Definitely action-packed. There's a lot going on in this story, but the author does a great job of tying it all together.
