Had to break out the laptop for this review! I want to give this 5 stars, but this is a 4 star book.

What I Am A Feral Rat For:
- If Ziri has 1 million fans, I'm one of them. If Ziri has 1,000 fans, I'm one of them. If Ziri has 10 fans, I'm one of them. If Ziri has 0 fans, it's because I'm dead. He is the definition of a sweet soul and I protect him at all COSTS!
- Zuse and Mik brought such a relief to the heaviness of the series, and I'm glad they continued to be important characters!!! And Mik was a SMARTY pants you can't help but love him.
- There is nothing in this world I love more than a consistent character and Akiva STAYED being a simp for Karou! We love love in this household!
- Laini knows how to write. She knows how to write characters, settings, emotions, dialogue...this betch can write and I felt like I was reading 600 pages of poetry.
- THE ENDING both made me cry and laugh and UGH!!! I love those two crazy kids

Things I Need Laini Taylor To Address:
- MORE. ZIRI. AND. LIRAZ.
- The introductions to the new characters was cool and all, but it felt too late in the game for them to mean something and they meant EVERYTHING to the ending.
- You can't end a trilogy with a CLIFFHANGER BABES. I mean I guess it wasn't a cliffhanger but now I need a second trilogy to tell me what's going to happen next!!!
- Some of the things (Jael, Stelians, etc.) felt too wrapped up neatly for me. I also felt we were 90% into the book and there was still SO MUCH that needed to conclude.

This series is still a 5 star series and I hope everyone reads!!

This was so hard to rate because I have so much love for this world and these characters now and there is a lot in this book I adored! A lot!
But I really feel like this story could’ve benefited from being extended and separated into two books instead of one. Idk if there was pressure to make it a trilogy or if Taylor was just feeling a little tired and ready for the next thing but— it felt both slow and incomplete and
rushed all at the same time. The plotlines that we’d been building towards in the background (and the new ones introduced in just this book) deserved to be expanded on but instead it’s like everything suddenly tried to match pace with each other even though they were nowhere near being completed. I don’t know :,) I just wanted more and also wanted to be done.

I do really look forward to reading Taylor’s adult work :) She definitely has an incredible talent for world building! And I’ll be thinking about these characters for a long while yet

I’m overcome with an overpowering jealousy that I didn’t write this. It felt like this story happened within my own body it was so viscerally real. After I finished it I woke up dreaming of godstars and beasts who aren’t beastly and ordinary love that was bigger than wishes and stronger than war. I love the powerful message of hope that kept me reading even though some parts were so depressing it was physically painful.

The meaning of bittersweet has never felt so real than it does right now. I'm amazed at this book and at Laini Taylor for having written it.

I just can't do it. I really tried to like this, I got to more than half way but nope...

From memory, I loved Daughter of Smoke and Bone, struggled through the second one and now not finishing the third...

This book was too long in my opinion, because there wasn't much excitement or story. Also at times I found myself reading a whole paragraph and thinking 'what the hell did I just read, it doesn't make sense!'. I was lost so often, that it's not worth continuing to read just so that I can get to the small amount of enjoyable bits.
