Interesting and informative but absolutely did not need to be a graphic novel. The art was unremarkable and did not aid or elevate the narrative. The choice to have each page contain a handful of drawings and narrative/dialogue also made this longer than it needed to be.

Such a simple yet powerful comic. The absurdity and intensity of the violence is very clear here and it's a quick read i wish more poeple knew.

Rosa Parks is name know far and wide for being one of the key sparks in igniting the civil rights movement. What people don’t know is is the story of the girl who sat on the bud months before Rosa even had the idea. History could have been different but image is everything and even back then, having the right look could make or break a moment. But who is Claudette Colvin?

I loved this and truly appreciated learning about this woman’s story and life. I think it was definitely an interesting move on the author’s part to focus on a second and first person perspective and for once, second person worked for me and it worked very well. Learning about the history of how Rosa Parks’s iconic moment came to be really shown a different light on the civil rights movement. Obviously it wasn’t perfect but hearing how the image Claudette had, especially when she found out she was pregnant, was considered to be too my boss a risk. This hurt to read and my heart goes out to her. Additionally, I loved the choice illustration style with the very set brown tone color palette. Would love to read more from this author as well as learn more about Claudette as a person in general.

This was such a great graphic novel. I had never heard about Claudette Colvin and what she went through until I read this book. I thought that it was well researched and well put together. The story flows very well and I think the author did a great job of keeping all of the events straight. Overall a great read that I think everyone should read.
