"She feels a good boat, bonny and brave!" said Andy's father.
"The Andy is like her master then!" cried Tom. "For he's just the same..."

I absolutely know that if I read this now it would not get 5 stars, but I'm not rating it as current, 21-year-old me, but as childhood me who was OBSESSED with this book.

I've been reminded of its existence by a prompt on Twitter about your most On Brand childhood story, and this book is mine. I took my dad's copy of this book to school with me every day for reading time, and on one particular day, our teacher called us to the middle of the classroom for our next activity when I was at the start of the very last page of this book. I was so desperate to know how it finished, to read those last words, that I snuck my book along with me to keep reading it. Another kid dobbed me in to our teacher and she was just like, "I know, she's at the end, let her finish it". I loved this teacher.

Anyway, that's how much I loved this book. I don't think I will ever re-read it properly, only quick skims through it, because I don't want to ruin my memory of it. But as a kid who read way more than basically everyone she knew, I found this book thrilling and so so entertaining. I loved it.

Even as a child I knew the story was shaky. I shouldn't have re-read it as an adult. It's farcical.

I've given it three stars based on my original memory of first reading it - the shakiness of the story somehow flatters one's childish imagination.
