Ik heb erg genoten van deze bundel. Ieder verhaal was weer heel anders.
Tijdens het lezen heb ik per verhaal bijgehouden wat ik ervan vond:

Hier kon ik wat minder mee, ook al voelde ik de emotie
Ghost of Christmas past 4*
Dit vond ik een heel leuk verhaal om te lezen, met een leuke, originele invalshoek
If Only in My Dreams 3*
Bijzondere invalshoek, duister verhaal. Mijn nekharen staan overeind.
Family You Choose 5*
All the warm feeling! Love this! Zou graag nog meer lezen over deze personages, hoe het ze nu verder vergaat, maar het is op deze manier een krachtig, kort verhaal, en dat is precies de bedoeling van korte verhalen! Ik vind het altijd bijzonder als ik zo op een paar bladzijden kan connecten met de personages!
The Associates 3*
Heel mooi, hartverscheurend. Brengt de boodschap van dit boek ook heel duidelijk over.
The Afterschool Club 5*
Ik vond dit boek mooi klinken, en vond het doel mooi. Maar toen ik zag dat er een verhaal van Holly Bourne in stond, ging het in mijn mandje bij Donner. Dat is nu al wel even geleden, maargoed.
En oh boy was alleen dit verhaal al het waard. Zo mooi, zo breekbaar, zo rauw.
Homo for Christmas 4*
Deze vond ik ook leuk! Leuk hoe je door de herinneringen beide delen van het verhaal meekrijgt. Mooi gedaan. Alleen zie ik de personages niet echt voor me, ze blijven een beetje vlak voor me. Nou is het een kort verhaal dus heel erg is het niet, maar het mist daardoor net wel even wat diepgang voor me, terwijl dit verhaal zich daar wel goed voor leent.
Amir and George 4,5*
Het verhaal van Amir komt binnen. Ik moest even wennen aan de schrijfstijl, maar daar zie ik de toegevoegde waarde van. Ook de aankleding om Amirs verhaal vind ik mooi. Maar het verhaal van Amir, wow.
The Letter 4*
Oh, hartverscheurend.
Claws 2*
Dit was heel creepy en naar, niet mijn ding. Wel leuk voor de variatie in zo'n bundel.
Christmas, Take Two 4*
Wat een heerlijk kerstverhaal, en dan met het thema van de bundel er mooi in verwerkt. Genieten! Maar miste een spark voor me, zonder dat ik kan zeggen waar het aan ligt..
When Daddy Comes Home 4*
De vertelvorm van deze was heel pakkend en uniek, dat vond ik erg tof. Het verhaal zelf vond ik ook origineel. Voornamelijk onder de indruk van de originaliteit dus van Melvin Burgess!
The Bluebird 2*
De schrijfstijl en het verhaal spraken me wat minder aan, maar de sfeer en de emotie aan het eind vond ik wel mooi.
Routes and Wings 5*
Heel mooi en realistisch, en dat einde vond ik helemaal prachtig. Iedereen die ervoor kiest om weg te kijken, kan er ook voor kiezen een verschil te maken.

I specifically left this book till December to get me into the Christmas spirit.
I love reading short story collections, it’s a great way to find new YA authors and sample their writing.
‘I’ll be home for Christmas’ is a collaboration of UKYA authors and their stories of young adults and what ‘HOME’ means to them. I loved that this book has several genres including science fiction, Horror and Contemporary with such diverse characters. We have refugees, race and sexuality being explored and there was something for everyone to enjoy. I obviously had my favourites in this book and it was surprising that it was the horror, it was so intense and atmospheric and definitely got my pulse racing and that was Claws by Thomas Becker. There was not one story that I disliked in this book and after each story was finished I was left wanting more. I will definitely be purchasing my own copy of this book. There are 15 short stories/poems in this book including a competition winner.
This book is heartwarming and heart wrenching at the same time and definitely recommend reading.
Stripes teamed up with the charity Crises for this book to raise awareness of the hardships young people are facing today. This book is definitely impactful and made me think of the people who are less fortunate and homeless, £1 from every sale is donated to the charity.

2 star rating for the entire book.
But a few of the stories in the book I would give a 4 star rating! But other stories I ended skipping as I found them not very interesting.

This book really wasn’t what I expected. I thought it would be a lot more Christmassy and a lot happier than it was. Although I did enjoy many of the stories, there were a few that I thought we very odd and not very Christmas themed and some I really didn’t like. My favourites were the stories by Non Pratt, cat Clarke, holly bourne, Katy cannon and Lisa Williamson.

So, I’m more than halfway into this collection and haven’t given any of the stories anything above two stars. This is my cue to throw in the towel and admit that I gave this book my honest best shot. It’s just a no-go for me. Also, this book is incredibly misleading, because both the cover and title evoke a sweet, cozy christmasy feeling, but literally none of the stories (so far) share this christmasy vibe?? They might mention Christmas once or twice, but they’re a far reach from being festive stories...like, at all.

I quite liked some of these stories, but for the most part wasn't really into this collection. The stories often felt forced and not very Christmassy, which isn't fun. I mean, I know it's September, but I want CHRISTMAS STORIES, okay? I liked the Non Pratt one, and the space one was very lovely, but creepy, and the Lisa Williamson homelesness one heartwarming and Homo for Christmas was just excellent. The rest were just a bit too creepy, or forced (the refugee story), or not really resolved enough. So definitly not my favourite anthology. Oh well.
