I picked this chapbook, well I downloaded it, at one of the many small presses that provide free downloads of their chaps. Usually, this is done after the physical ones are sold out or because they just wanted it to be an e-book. I've honestly never heard of Wendy Xu. But after reading this, I might just keep her under my radar. It's nice little book. It's sort of an ode to a few friends, you see dedications beneath poems, and they all follow the see theme of not living up to expectations, not becoming what's expecting. A bravery song for the sad friend. Failing to become that flawless being that satisfies your mother and father and everyone that holds your name and hand. Disappointing the demands and hopes in your mind. Sailing across nothing that fills you. It's sort of like a concept EP album.

An epigrammatic little chapbook which I appreciated, but which wasn't ultimately to my taste.

...This poem begins
when you see it. When you reach up into it.

i'm gone. i think the ink i was using to journal this chapbook is enough substitute for the tears i shed because it's so good?
