Wow this writing is really good.
I found this book to be clever in its development. After reading the blurb I thought it would be the suspenseful plot that followed the path of finding the missing sister. But instead that suspense just floated in the background and the missing sister became a commentary on motherhood and how two sisters can take two approaches to being a mother. It also explored dependence on other people and the idea that defining who you are according to your relationship with another person and their actions inevitably means you will need to redefine who you are eventually.
As a mum this gave me a lot of things to think about. It also helped define parts of my mothering journey as I, in some ways, identified with one character.
