4.5 🌟s. I thought this was even better than the first novel in the trilogy!

So, compared to SaB I liked SaS’s plot better. But, the world building in SaB was just so good compared to SaB. One thing about both books I like are the “Before” and “After” parts. I LOVE the third person POV so much! Mal and Alina’s relationship is stressing me out SO MUCH! And, is Nikolai alive? Will Alina get her power back?

Better than its predecessor but still left me unimpressed.

I remember cracking a smile at two points throughout this whole book, but apart from that it’s not doing much for me

I began this book head over heals, so excited that there were privateers and ships sailing at sea and new fascinating characters. But the closer I got to the end, the angrier I became at the characters. Their choices pissed me the hell off -which as I said in my progress review, I HATE when people hold back the truth from one another. I wanted to rip my hair out over Mal especially. I almost set the book down because I was so irritated with how the characters were developing. I just wanted to smack them all. But I kept reading, and all of hell seemed to open from the sky in the ending. My heart. Oh my heart. It's a rare thing for me to say, but I'm not entirely sure what's going to happen next.

I didn't know what to expect going into this book because I had seen quite a few people say that they liked the first book better than this one. And if you've read my first review then you know it took me A WHILE to get into the first book so I went in slightly disheartened. Imagine my shock when I was gripped and thrown in head first from the VERY BEGINNING.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and it might even be my favourite in the trilogy. A lot of why I loved it so much is that there was so much NIKOLAI LANTSOV content in it. He really is something. Capable, funny, a leader. Ugh. He's amazing. He is very much my absolute favourite...Sorry Genya. I even love the dynamic between him and Alina.

Again, I had no feelings towards the Darkling. He's certainly intriguing and complicated but I have neither here nor there feelings about him. He was just a major part of the plot in terms of what he was and the purpose he served but that was about it.

As for Sergei, Vasily and his parents (The King and Queen... Ugh.)

Tolya and Tamar also stole my heart. Even Zoya has started growing on me, she's actually hilarious in a weird way. I love that David has no idea how funny he is. When it comes to Mal and Alina, I wouldn't say they are the best couple I've ever read about but I understand why they would be together. Their relationship would actually make more sense than Alina with the Darkling to be honest. They're a comfortable match and I found myself enjoying their banter.

I loved this book and I highly recommend. This book was the key to keeping me in the Grisha universe.
