This was so much weirder than I expected, in a good way! I’m just not totally sure what to focus on in a review.

It’s a romance, yes, but our love interest is absent more than half the book, becoming a larger than life version of herself. It’s more about the daily life of womanhood and the small rebellions. Rebellious imagination and rebellious (in)action.

This book has a lot of symbolism and imagery. It leans hard on the Bible, in particular water. I think there is a lot more there that I missed, but I did really like the sensuality of the Bible that was pulled through the narrative. We also have an angelic cow and lots of cream, butter, milk, nourishment.

I think this is one I’ll be processing for a while? It’s hard for me even to pull out exactly what to talk about because it was very balanced.

Reading this felt comforting and nourishing. The writing is lovely and feels like folklore, and manages to be wholesome and sexy at the same time. Even when life becomes hard for Amanda and Martha, there's a spirit of hope and love and optimism that carries through, which was a refreshing change from my usual cynical reading tendencies.

Sensuous and sensual; strange and welcoming; a true balm to my Ali Hazelwood-fevered brow

First romance book I've read where fatness is really celebrated. Stinson's descriptions of weight and heft were loving and made me think twice about how I approach fatness myself. Super sensual, too.

I don't think there's necessarily a driving plot, but I enjoyed my read regardless.
