The story begins when rather frazzled mum, Eloise, wakens to a snowy day and discovers that while one of her three children has a 'snowday' from school, the other two don't and neither does she! What follows is a rather madcap journey through the next few weeks towards Christmas as Eloise finds she has rather lot of romantic possibilities all of a sudden, one of which is her ex-husband Gary! She has been single for a while and used to coping, even if only just coping sometimes, with the demands of work and childcare with little input from Gary who is in a new relationship. All of a sudden, he seems to want to have a lot more to do with the children and Eloise isn't sure she is happy with that. However, not one, not two but three other men all seem to be interested in Eloise at the same time so she really is spoiled for choice and completely confused!

Snowday is a fun-filled fast-paced rom-com with plenty of laugh-out loud moments and parts where you will be cringing on behalf of Eloise and wondering what on earth she is thinking about! But there are more serious parts too, looking at the reality of life as a working parent, the compromises needed at Christmas time when a marriage has split up but above all, the importance of being with those you love. Eloise is a character that I really warmed to and I hope we find out more about what happens to her and her lovely family in future books from BR Maycock.

Eloise’s story is one that is highly believable as well as relatable. The author doesn’t sugar coat it, she shows us real life in a way that will have you nodding your head and totally getting everything that Eloise is going through but in a fun and humorous way.

We all love reading a book or watching a film set around Christmas. Winter time can be very magical as well as picturesque, what we never get to see though is the issues this time of year causes parents to have to go through. School closures, parents being left with no childcare and what to do with their children.

Eloise, I adored. A single mum who is trying to do her best. She has her hands full with her children who I adored even more. Again there was so many things I could relate to with children shouting things out you wish they hadn’t, making me remember when my children were younger and how I wish at times I could sink into the ground. Dreaded phone calls from school, I was just so glad that for once I was reading of someone else’s misfortunes rather than my own.

There are so many characters that really make this story even more great. Some of who will even have you changing your mind about and softening towards. This is very much a story about a woman trying to find herself in a world that is constantly changing. It really is great to read a book that isn’t all romance and flowers yet at the same time making it so endearing that you don’t want to put down.

Snowday is such a fabulous and feel good read. It really is a tonic, cheering me up no end. Whilst at times a humorous read, it is also a heart warming one. The perfect book to snuggle up with at this time of year, though you may want to read it on a day when you have the house to yourself so there are no unwanted interruptions!

My thanks to the author for an advanced readers copy of this book. All opinions are my own and not biased in anyway.

At this time of year I can’t resist books with gorgeous snowy covers and Snowday definitely caught my eye with its festive cover! I’m so pleased to say that the novel itself totally lives up to the cover and I loved this book.

Eloise is recently separated from her husband and is struggling to juggle their three children and a full-time job. Her estranged husband loves the children but turns up randomly to see them making Eloise’s life even more stressful. He’s also in a new relationship and she’s not sure how she feels about that.

Over the course of the book we see the love Eloise has for her children and what a great mum she is. She clearly loves her family but just wishes her life was a little less hectic. Things become more interesting when she finds herself with two potential love interests and a neighbour across the road who seems to blow very hot and cold with his attitude towards her.

Eloise spends a lot of her time feeling utterly frazzled, trying to be everything to everyone. Her attempts at dating were very amusing. I don’t have children but I remember what it was like to be going on dates again after coming out of a long term relationship and I felt for her. She’s such a genuine and relatable character and I was rooting for her to find some happiness for herself.

I loved how as the novel heads towards Christmas, and Eloise is gradually making peace with the way her life has turned out, there is another surprise in store for her. This is a book that’s full of honesty about family life and break-ups and yet packed with humour and joy too.

Snowday is a really engaging, fun read that shows the reality of life but with a fab dose of humour too. It’s such a gorgeous, wintery read and I absolutely loved it! I highly recommend adding this to your festive reading lists.
