A feminist is not a bad word. After today it might be my favourite word.Because really all it is is girls supporting each other and wanting to be treated like human beings in a world that always finding ways to tell they're not
I really enjoyed the middle and the end of the book but it was a bit slow at the beginning. I like how it discussed unfair dress codes women face in school and how rape and attempted rape is not taken seriously. I liked how the author tried to include intersectionality however this was very base level and wished it was touched upon more. I liked how the main character learned from her mistakes, however the protagonist Vivian is white cis and hetereo who has experience  less sexism than other characters in the book. I loved
the walkout which was very empowering and the moxie party where it was just girls
But i wished it talked more about women of colour feminism and queer feminism. Overall its a good entry level book into feminism

MOXIE GIRLS FIGHT BACK! šŸ¤œšŸ¼
If I could give this 200 stars I would. My GOD how I wish this had existed when I was in high school.. but Iā€™m so glad it exists now and I hope that every young girl has the opportunity to pick this up. My journey into feminism was less than graceful and took far longer than is comfortable to admit, and this is like a gentle hand-holding into a huge topic that anyone and everyone can relate to. The characters are deeply developed and nuanced. The story is a tale as old as time (with zines!). You will laugh, you will cry, you will rage. Equal parts heartwarming and heartbreaking, 200/10.

It's probably for the best I didn't read this as a teen (or worse, a tween), because I probably would have tried to start a riot or something. It was a fun read for sure - I loved Viv and all her friends and loved the idea behind Moxie. I mean, obviously, it felt like a YA book because things were a bit extreme and some of their reactions were less extreme than I think an adult would go for (I mean, I think if people just started grabbing me at random in the school hallways, at this point, I'd do a lot more than leave a sticker on their locker, but I'm also 10 years older than the characters).

Anyway, I had a lot of fun with this one. Do you have to suspend your disbelief a bit as an adult? Yeah, but that's often the case with YA books. Still a really fun read and worth picking up as a fun palate cleanser.
