MOXIE GIRLS FIGHT BACK! 🤜🏼
If I could give this 200 stars I would. My GOD how I wish this had existed when I was in high school.. but I’m so glad it exists now and I hope that every young girl has the opportunity to pick this up. My journey into feminism was less than graceful and took far longer than is comfortable to admit, and this is like a gentle hand-holding into a huge topic that anyone and everyone can relate to. The characters are deeply developed and nuanced. The story is a tale as old as time (with zines!). You will laugh, you will cry, you will rage. Equal parts heartwarming and heartbreaking, 200/10.

I really loved this, specially the ending. I love how the author, even with the fact that the main character is a white woman, she tried to make this intersectional (even tho when it comes to that kind of representation, the movie was better in my opinion) specially in the second half. I loved the character development specially in the main character Viv and her best friend Claudia.

as I said, the representation, in my opinion, was better in the movie but it still had some representation which I really appreciated.

also, I have to say: movie Seth Acosta >>>> book Seth Acosta.
but I still really liked him (even tho he pissed me off sometimes, he had character development in the end).

so yeah... I really liked this. I also recommend the movie. it's on Netflix.

I felt my feminist rage emboldening up as a read through this wonderful fast-paced modern girl-power novel.
I have had this on my TBR since I watched the Netflix film and I am so glad I read it. Sometimes in our modern society with #MeToo revelations and stories of a yet another cishet white man getting away with their entitlement it can feel like nothing is changing for good, but novels like Moxie remind me that it’s the small things that can make the most difference. That “silence cannot protect you”, it only emboldens those who thrive in quiet to commit more atrocious acts until someone has the courage and fortitude to speak up. If this novel does anything, it encourages women to not only support each other but speak up for the injustices we face. I appreciated the author dipping into the disparity of treatment for women of colour and LGBTQ+ peoples, as well as showing a young man who can listen, grow, and learn from his mistakes and the things he doesn’t (and cannot truely) understand.
I would highly recommend this novel if you are after a quick modern feminist YA read that will fuel your righteousness anger at the injustices in the world by giving you hope for the future.
Remember, never be afraid to speak up for your voice matters.

1 hour 54 minutes - A decently enjoyable read, fairly predictable in places but definitely not dull. It all felt very stereotypical, the popular cheerleader, the outspoken feminist, the awful football players, these characters feel like they have been written and rewritten a hundred times in books, movies and TV shows. However, the story was a very powerful one, taking back power from misogyny in society, with a main character who isn't perfect, has relatable struggles and actually feels very real. The romance involved wasn't overbearing and worked to provide a different perspective, and the author included some points of view of intersectional feminism as well. Overall, an enjoyable but not overly realistic read, but one that is hopefully inspiring to young women fighting the system.
