1.5 stars. A fitting book for this season of cold and rainy weather, but did I like it? Not really. I much preferred the other book I read about this couple of animals.

This isn't the cause of one character, though I have to say that Bear was super annoying, but Mouse was also just frustrating. He did help, and that is a good thing, but sadly he was overly dramatic and if my friend would act like that I would move him out of my house. Caring only for his friends stuff, caring only to annoy the Bear it seems. No thank you.

Bear was also really annoying and I didn't like his dramatics. He has a cold, he isn't dying for crying out loud. I just kept shaking my head, and I was dearly hoping that Bear would turn around and say he was just joking about the dying part. Instead, he just kept going.

So yeah, it was a bit too dramatic, too annoying for me. However, I did like the illustrations in this book. They are colourful, vivid, and fun to look at, because you keep finding new details.

All in all, I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone. Just read the other book (A Library Book for Bear) instead.

Otherwise known as "Bear Gets a Man-Cold." :P

Bear's melodrama is great fun to read, as always, but I was a little weirded out by reading the phrase "I'm not long for this world" to a four-year-old.

Oh Bear and Mouse, how I love your books with their wonderful richness of language.
Bear is sick. "In fact, Bear was quite sure no one had ever been as sick as he."
Mouse tries to make Bear feel better, with a cheerful story, a serenade, banjo music.
"'Stop!' growled Bear. 'I fear you do not appreciate the gravity of my situation.'"
Love!
Mouse finally gets Bear to bed with some soup, and after making a will and whispering farewell, Bear falls asleep. When he wakes, feeling better, Mouse is now sick, and Bear knows just what to do to help.
Perfect to hit the Common Core State Standards for Craft and Structure.

For some reason I have a fondness for books about feeling under the weather. Friends bring soup, there are big red noses, funny accents due to congestion, and piles of quilts. There is something very cozy and reassuring about sickness books, probably because they alway end in recovery. The character is pampered by his friends and then wonder upon wonders, he feels SO much better in the morning. It's like magic.

Ah the return of melodramatic bear. I liked this story better than the last one I read (a friend for bear?). But still this one has language that is better for one-on-one reading than with a group.

This was my first Bear and Mouse book... so, yes, I'm apparently reading them out of order.  Curses!  Anyway, a delightful young lady recommended The Sniffles for Bear to me.  What a lovely book!  Bear is just the right amount of curmudgeon and drama in this book.  And, Mouse is just the perfect little unaware ray of sunshine.  I'm very much looking forward to the other titles in this series.

Good for 4-6 year olds at story time. A DRAMATIC bear and an oblivious (but helpful!) mouse, helped keep the kids focused through a fair chunk of text with high dollar words. Love the illustrations.

"I fear you do not appreciate the gravity of my situation."

How many picture books contain a phrase like that? None. Or "HAVE YOU NO DECENCY!?"

What a drama bear! Filled with more great vocabulary and phrases, priceless illustrations filled with expression, and a lovely story of true friendship, this is another Bear story worth checking out. A bit long and with conversations that may require discussion between reader and listener, this may not be the best for storytime, but perfect for one-on-one sharing between a caregiver and older preschool or young elementary school child.

Some people are just not good patients, and Bear is one of them. I love his drama: "I grow weaker by the moment"-- and rich language: "HAVE YOU NO DECENCY?"

This will be great fun to read and overact with. Of course, loyal mouse sticks with him and knows what he needs. Predictable but still satisfying twist at the end.
