In Bruges is one of my absolute favorite movies and the screenplay is just as good. I wish some scenes were kept...

Having seen the movie previously, it was interesting to go back and read the screenplay. In this work, McDonagh captures something touching about regret, friendship, and the human desire to do good, simultaneously balancing all the violence and black humor he is know for. At times offensive in its content (as much of McDonagh's work can be), "In Bruges" nevertheless captures the struggles and basic humanity of its characters amidst chaos, poor choices, and hostile surroundings. It is truly funny and truly heartbreaking, and displays all of McDonagh's skill in true form.

If you liked the movie, then naturally you'll like this. There are some great details here that either didn't make the cut for the film or were a little vague, so having that clarity was great. There were some fun references in the script too, such as Ken's book being written by Katurian from The Pillowman.

Oh God. Martin McDonagh can do things that are so wrong and still do no wrong. That's talent for you.

Was in NYC and found a copy of this screenplay. Read it in such a short time because it's such a good example of beautiful and hilarious dialogue. I love In Bruges.
